Smart Lighting and COVID-19

With the recent Pandemic affecting all of our lives in one way or another, it has made us rethink many aspects of our lives.

Social distancing, regular hand sanitizing and reduced social gatherings have become the new.... well, normal?! Whether we like it or not, this is the direction we are going. Although this drastic change in lifestyle has brought many hardships, it's always good to look at the plus side and see the glass as "half full". We have brought forth different ways of doing things which are changes for the better.

The changes include working from home as opposed to an office environment, food delivery services skyrocketing and keeping cleanliness and hygiene at the forefront. Everyone has taken care to social distance and use hand sanitizer regularly but what about the unforeseen things? The areas you have no control over no matter how diligent you are? I'm talking about high traffic touch areas like light switches. Sure, you can clean and sanitize them regularly and hope that everyone is following the same protocol as you or you can do the smart thing; automate them so that there is no need to even touch these high traffic items to begin with.

Smart switches can control your lights through multiple means such as at the switch, a mobile device or from a home assistant such as Amazon Alexa or Google Home. Not only is this a cool and convenient feature for your home, it also eliminates the need to even touch the switches which can drastically reduce the spread of germs and bacteria.

Now I know what you are thinking, "That techy stuff is not for me" or "its too complicated to use". None of these things can be further from the truth. My 90 year old Grandmother has smart switches in her place and can use them with the greatest of ease!

All you need is an internet connection and you can easily have a smart home that requires zero touching of any switches to turn your lights on or off. This also works good for practical everyday activities. There have been times when I'm preparing supper and have been busy in the kitchen. If I require more light, I can simply tell the home assistant to turn my lights to whatever brightness I want and it is automatically done for me. No mess, no hassle.
